A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{January 20, 2013}   Comics and manga of the week (75 & 76)

cursesI am never going to get through my pile of comics at this rate… especially since my boss lent me one of the three I did read in the last 2 weeks.

Bride’s Story, volume 4 by Kaoru Mori

  • This volume follows doctor Smith further west (from the asian steppes where we started the series), where he is held up at a small fishing village. There we meet a pair of energetic twins ready to do whatever it takes to find husbands. They had me in stitches. And as always the art is divine. What? The twins are getting married in the next volume? Can I have it now? Please? (Picture Willem’s Pigeon)

Curses! Foiled Again by Jane Yolen and Mike Cavallaro

  • This is the sequel to Yolen’s amazing YA comic Foiled. Aliera continues to defend the fairy realm with her quick wit and her fencing skills. This is a beautiful and unique fantasy adventure and you owe it to yourself to read it.

Notes, volume 5: Quelques minutes avant la fin du monde (French) by Boulet

  • This is a collection of gags and reflections in comic form from Boulet’s blog. Many revolve around the end of the world in one way or another and all are quite clever. My favorite? A series of strips about the slugs that invaded his appartment and his attempts to get rid of them. I hate slugs, but his talk in lol cat. 🙂
