A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{September 19, 2011}   Comics and manga of the week (7)

This weekend was Montreal Comiccon, the perfect opportunity to make my huge to read pile even bigger. But I also met some great creators (Gail Simone! Pia Guerra! Stan Sakai!), got some amazing art and autographed swag. You’ll probably see the results of this in the weeks to come.

Fruits Basket, volume 11 (French) by Takaya Natsuki

Fruits Basket, volume 12 (French) by Takaya Natsuki

Fruits Basket, volume 13 (French) by Takaya Natsuki

Fruits Basket, volume 14 (French) by Takaya Natsuki

Fruits Basket, volume 15 (French) by Takaya Natsuki

  • And the Fruits Basket trend continues. I cannot get enough of this series. Though it starts out as a silly fantasy it turns into something more complex with every volume: sweet, sad and funny.

Planetes, volume 1 (French) by Makoto Yukimura

  • A very realistic portrayal of life in space in the near future from the perspective of garbage men… in space.

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, volume 1 by Sean McKeever

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, volume 2 by Sean McKeever

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, volume 3 by Sean McKeever

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, volume 4 by Sean McKeever

  • My friends will tell you that I am not a huge Spidey fan but I love this series, it is very fun and sweet. A great introduction to the Marvel Universe for young girls.

Sweet Tooth, volume 1 by Jeff Lemire

Sweet Tooth, volume 2 by Jeff Lemire

Sweet Tooth, volume 3 by Jeff Lemire

  • An amazing post-apocalyptic tale by a great canadian author. My only regret is that there isn’t another trade for me to read yet.

We3 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely

  • The horrors that we do to animals taken to a whole new level. You may cry.
