A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{July 6, 2011}   Waiting on Wednesday: Wildefire

Title: Wildefire

Author: Karsten Knight

Publisher: Simon & Shuster

Release date: July 26, 2011

Plot: Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm. (Summary from Amazon)

Why I’m waiting: I met Karsten Knight at Book Expo America while waiting in line for an autograph. He handed out bookmarks and chatted with us a bit. I’m glad he did: he was a nice guy and I might not have heard about his intriguing book otherwise. His memoir of a teenage Polynesian volcano goddess sounds both fresh and fun. I look forward to it.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine. I plan to participate for the next year at least (because my to read pile really needs to be longer ;P). If you’d like to join in, grab a graphic, write a post and leave a link on her site.

Check out my Waiting on Wednesday picks!

This is one of my most anticipated for July! Great pick.

My WoW!

This does sound like a good one…especially since you met the author. Isn’t that fun?

I love the cover and the premise has me excited about this one too. Great pick!

Sounds cool, I feel like I’ve seen the cover but didn’t really know what the book was about. I like the Polynesian God aspect. I don’t know much about their mythology and I like that it’s different from the more culturally prevalent gods and goddesses featured in YA lit. Throwing it in the TBR Pile…Thanks!

Sally says:

Great pick. I have an egalley of this one that I must read soon.

Arianna says:

I got this one at ALA! I’m looking forward to reading it.
