A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{May 28, 2011}   Enthralled

Plot: A collection of supernatural stories from some of the biggest names in paranormal YA including Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Carrie Ryan, Claudia Gray, Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl and Sarah Rees Brennan.

This review is based on an Advanced Reader’s Copy received from Harper Collins at Book Expo America.

This anthology is dedicated to all Smart Chicks and it is indeed a very smart, engaging collection of stories. Many of the authors are writing in the universe of their novels so it is a special treat for fans of the series but the stories are well written and accessible to all.

My favorite story was by far Let’s Get This Undead Show on the Road by Sarah Rees Brennan about a vampire in a boy band. Not only is it a brilliant and well executed concept but the characters are deep and Rees Brennan made me laugh out loud several times. Other notable stories included Facing Facts by Kelley Armstrong in which Chloe of the Darkest Powers Series deals with her actions in the climax of the story, The Scenic Route by Carrie Ryan about two sisters trying to survive a zombie apocalypse and Gargouille by Mary E. Pearson about a mythical gargouille captured and taken from everything she loves.

My favorite first line? “The worst thing about cannibal Girl Scouts are the badges.”
