A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{April 4, 2011}   John Green

Following on the heels of Dragon Age 2 comes a new obsession, this time for the author John Green. He is the author of such books as Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns and co-author of Will Grayson, Will Grayson which your humble Rogue librarian loved. An Abundance of Katherines is currently sitting on my to-read pile (to-read mountain, whatever).

But my obsession has less to do with his books as with his video blogs. He and his brother Hank (a musician) have been keeping a video blog for over four years on a wide variety of topics of interest to geeks and nerds. I just recently discovered their youtube channel (vlogbrothers) and have been watching their videos which are both funny and interesting (and often socially conscious). They have also created a very interactive community of cool nerdy people known as nerdfighters. I feel like John Green and I would be good friends if we knew each other irl. He may or may not agree.

I encourage you to discover the videos as well as John Green’s wonderfully written books. You can find out more about both on his website.

Here’s an example of John Green’s brilliance:

Don’t forget to be awesome.

(If you’re wondering about the picture: John Green is fascinated by the last words of famous people. Indeed, this is an important theme of Looking for Alaska. You can find a video of Green geeking out about this book on the vlogbrothers site).
