A Rogue Librarian's Reading List

{March 2, 2011}   Waiting on Wednesday: Red Glove

Title: Red Glove

Author: Holly Black

Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry

Release date: April 5, 2011

Plot: Cassel is from a mob family that deals in curses and cons. As the only member of the family who couldn’t do curse work and haunted by memories of killing the girl he loved, he has always been an outsider. But now everything has changed. His brother is murdered and the Feds want his help in solving the case. But the mob is after him too for his unique skills. In a world where emotions and memories can be manipulated at a touch, Cassel can’t trust anyone. Even himself. He is going to have to stay one step ahead of both side if only to survive.

Why I’m waiting: I read the first book in the curse workers’ series, The White Cat, last year and I was blown away. Black has a way of writing complex, believable characters and truly unique urban fantasies. Magic aside, Black had such a masterful grasp of the con that I could see myself being fooled as well.  Besides which, I hadn’t been so taken aback by an ending in a long time. It was perfect, surprising and absolutely heartbreaking. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine. I plan to participate for the next year at least (because my to read pile really needs to be longer ;P). If you’d like to join in, grab a graphic, write a post and leave a link on her site.
